Video by Justin Flowers. He has more videos online at: Justin Flowers Videos I love the pier in Oceanside, Ca. The people that go there know it is a very special place. The original pier was built in 1888 where Wisconsin Avenue is now located. Apparently, it was ruined shortly after its original construction by storms in the winter months of 1890. Three years later in 1893 Melchoir Pieper rebuilt it at its current location on Pier View Way. Since that time it has endured its fair share of damages from recurring storms and has been rebuilt several times. The pier that is there now has survived since 1987 when it was opened to the public in September of that year. Many people visit the Oceanside pier to fish for the day, take a leisurely stroll or even dine at Ruby's Diner located at the pier's end. One thing I love about the pier is that it attracts all sorts of families and community events because of the Junior Seau Pier Amphitheater. This weekend is a showing of the Disney hit "Frozen," which starts at "dark." There is also a Junior Seau Beach Community Center near the pier that has a gymnasium, stage and more. Junior Seau was a football hero in this town and in its surrounding communities. I am so happy that they named the Amphitheater and Community Center after him so that we can always remember what he did for the people of his hometown.
