Whether you just landed in beautiful San Diego or have some time to kill before a boat tour, Tom Ham’s Boathouse on Harbor Island has food just as delightful as its view of the North San Diego Bay. Oh and did I mention Tom Ham’s has some of the best $1 oysters I’ve ever had? Happy Hour Deets Mon-Fri 3-6pm $1 off Wines by the Glass $2 off Craft Cocktails Selected Beers $3 for 8oz / $5 for 16oz $1 Oysters(daily selection) $2 off Small Bites $3 off Appetizers The Atmosphere We arrived at Tom Ham’s around 4p and the restaurant was still fairly empty for how big it is, but I would assume it’ll be busier during tourist season. We sat at the bar, the bartender was helpful, attentive, and informed. He even took our picture! The place started getting a couple parties around 4:30p, but it was still pretty quiet. After we finished eating it was just about sunset so we had to take some pictures by the water! The Food We immediately ordered 6 oysters, the selection that December night was Satori oysters from Denman Island, BC. Although this oyster species is smaller than I’m used to, they made up for it in flavor. Fun fact! Satori is a Buddhist term that means “sudden enlightenment”. I hope your visit to Tom Ham’s Lighthouse is filled with sudden enlightenment! Although, I’m sure all 7 types of oysters they offer are just as delicious. I wanted to order another 6, but I already peaked at the menu and my mouth was watering to try some more items on the menu…We ended up ordering Mussels, Tenderloin Tips, and House Ceviche. Spoiler Alert: They were all absolutely amazing! $10 Mussels: Deglazed In Stout With Cherry Tomato, Chorizo, Pecorino, and Dijon Cream Each bite was absolutely perfect, I even drank the extra liquid at the end. I was delightfully surprised to find sauteed onions mixed in the dish! Make sure to look at the bottom for them to add to each bite. :P $11 Tenderloin Tips: With Pistachios And A Salad Of Arugula, Frisee, Bacon, Blue Cheese, Balsamic This was a perfect blend of of savory flavors. Combining all three components on the dish created a perfectly balanced bite that my taste buds thanked me for. $9 House Ceviche: Avocado, Lime, Cilantro, Corn Chips This lighter, fresher dish was a nice change of pace after the two hardier plates we had ordered! There wasn’t anything too special to say about the citrusy ceviche. Maybe I’m spoiled and have only had good ceviche though and it was definitely good! The Drinks Honestly we were so consumed by the food, we only ordered a cocktail and a beer. It’s worth noting that the beer selection is pretty lengthy at Tom Ham’s Lighthouse with over 30 to choose from and they also offered a few select unique cocktails, as well as the standard cocktails. Being the salty lady I am, I ordered the Strawberry Shrub, which was $8.50 during happy hour. I loved the sweet strawberry flavor combined with the salted rim and who doesn’t like tequila? Tom Ham’s Lighthouse Conclusion If you couldn’t tell I adored every single thing we ordered. This was one of the best happy hours I have been to. The bill was slightly higher than others though, but you are definitely getting what you pay for and then some. Our bill came out to about $65 with tip. We normally have a snack later in the night when we do happy hours because we eat so early. Not this time we were full all night long! Revisiting this day has made me really crave be suddenly enlightened with some oysters!
