In a local community like San Diego County, connection is key, and actually that is what I love most about the SoCal area. On an even deeper level, for me, the greatest blessings in life are captured by three words: Creativity. Community. Culture. In essence, these simple words express a great deal regarding my love and heart for all things local in Southern California, hence the name LoSoCal. The "Lo" stands for "local." Local love for San Diego and Southern California, in general, is what I am all about. My vision is simple and it turns out that many other people feel the same. I realized that my vision, once I became more open and shared what the word "local" truly meant to me, is something that many other people identify with in the local SoCal community. This is not a new concept, but it is one that has yet to have a loyal advocate and a collective local voice behind it that states it so plainly. Support local small businesses and the local artists in our SoCal community.
Too many businesses here are struggling and dying and it’s breaking my heart. I can’t tell you how many times I have returned to a favorite local shop only to find that it didn’t make it!!!! I’m not against capitalism and corporations. I just hope we can find balance here in SoCal and also spend a great deal of our hard earned money supporting local shops, restaurants, studios, musicians, fine artists and more. They need us. We need them. Our local SoCal entrepreneurs and artists create the culture here which resonates a love for our community vibe and our local tribes. I root for the underdog. I always have and I probably always will because I am not the type of person to follow the crowd. My passion for our local communities surfaced after actively supporting many shops and restaurants in the SoCal area via pro bono social media marketing services. No one came to me and told me that was my path. I figured it out very naturally that I have a heart for our local brick and mortar business owners, entrepreneurs and artists. Social media became my vehicle. It just gelled together with what was on my heart regarding our communities. Essentially, I'm a social media and marketing consultant and I only offer business services in these areas to local small business owners and artists. I think in terms of locals and our community above all else, so everything I do has a local vibe. This is not just "marketing" for me. This is a local “conscious consumerism” movement. It is a commitment to a community-based lifestyle that I know and cherish very, very much. I am not only a local, I am a writer, blogger, intermediate photographer and a community connector in the beautiful SoCal region. I focus mainly on San North Diego, but travel often from Los Angeles to Downtown San Diego. I offer pro bono services, on a very selective basis as my schedule permits, for local businesses and artists that I have a genuine and organic connection with via me just "enjoying my life" lol. This is most definitely one of the greatest joys IN my life! The organic aspect is key to my pro bono marketing services. I love hearing what's going on in our communities anywhere from Santa Barbara to Baja California. Your event invitations and local suggestions and sharing actually help me to better understand the everyday happenings in our area. I am currently recruiting guest bloggers. I realized recently that having this platform was such a great blessing that truly fell in my lap and came from a raw passion for our local SoCal communities and it wasn’t meant to be about my voice alone. This is a local movement and I am trying to get others on board for this quest. I have already drawn other locals to join me on this mission. We have a common thread, from what I have noticed: shop small in our local communities and support our local artists. It’s that simple. That’s our mission. Join the movement. We can actively support our local shops and creative entrepreneurs and artists... every day in small ways with awareness and a collective conscious consumerism in our local communities. I shared my story. What’s yours? Are you a local Southern California resident with a heart for our communities? Do you have a particular passion that is part of our SoCal culture? If so, I would love to connect with you. Perhaps, you could join our developing LoSoCal guest blogging team and share some of your own stories about what SoCal means to you. With love, Karen Vazquez
